Macomb County offices will be closed in the afternoon on Friday March 29th in observance of Good Friday. Online services are available 24/7.

Information and assistance

The dedicated and trained team provides information and assistance to Macomb County seniors to identify needs, assist with accessing benefits and providing resources.

What is information and assistance?

Senior Services is here to help!

Getting the help you need can be confusing and overwhelming.  Senior Services has trained professionals available to learn about your individual needs, identify potential resources and assist with accessing services.

The office uses a person-centered approach, with the participant and family making the decisions to support their personal goals and needs. With the participant at the center, the team supports an individual's independence and choice with dignity and respect.

This includes meeting the individual in their home, over the phone, in the community or at the administrative office, whereever they are most comfortable.

Types of assistance available:

Confused about Medicare?

It is a complicated and ever changing program! Trained advocates can meet with you, one-on-one, to review your personal situation and options. The team will review and explain the choices available, with the participant making all the decisions. A decision does not need to be made at the time of the appointment.

Senior Services does not sell Medicare plans. The office is an unbiased resource.  Let the team be your guide to maximize your benefits and savings.

Assistance includes:

  • Prescription drug coverage
  • Medicare health plans
  • Medicare/Medicaid fraud and abuse
  • New health care options
  • Home heating tax credits

In need of Medicaid?

The team can review your potential eligibility and assist with your application. Your advocate can also assist with submitting required documents and updating your annual renewal.

Advocates may identify which DHHS programs participants qualify for and assist with the application process. Application assistance may include the following programs:

  • Food assistance (SNAP)
  • Emergency relief (Utility, Burial, and Home)
  • Medicaid
  • Subsidies to assist with Medicare premiums
  • MI-Bridge application completion

Information and referrals of a wide range of services are provided to help older adults and their families. Potential resources may include:

  • Macomb County government services
  • Caregiver assistance
  • Housing resources
  • Transportation resources
  • Elder abuse services
