Meals on Wheels

Delivering a ready to eat, nutritious meal, Monday through Friday to homebound seniors age 60 years and older.

What is Meals on Wheels?

Meals on Wheels is designed for older adults who are homebound and no longer prepare meals for themselves. Hot meals are locally prepared fresh on a daily basis and meet the recommended dietary guidelines.

Through the program, a volunteer delivers a meal directly to the seniors' door. Volunteers and paid drivers complete a background check and receive training. Want to volunteer?

The program is able to provide a chilled dinner meal, delivered at the same time, for a limited number of participants.  We also provide shelf stable (canned and packaged food items)  meals one to two times per year, in the event of unplanned closures.

It’s more than just a meal!

This program is a daily check in, Monday through Friday:

  • If an individual is not home for their scheduled meal, we will attempt to contact them and their emergency contacts to make sure they are okay.
  • It's a smile and brief conversation with our volunteers.
  • This provides families and caregivers with reassurance that their loved one is receiving a well balanced meal.

We deliver holiday meals.

Holiday meals are available for seniors who would be otherwise home alone on the holiday.  A special hot lunch is freshly prepared that day, including many traditional favorites. Meal delivery is available for Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Who is eligible?

  • Individuals at least 60 years of age
  • A Macomb County resident
  • The individual must be homebound (unable to leave their home without assistance)
  • The individual must be unable to prepare full meals
  • Regardless of income

If a senior is not eligible for Meals on Wheels, he or she can have a hot lunchtime meal at a Dining Senior Style site. These sites serve meals at various locations throughout Macomb County.

What is the cost?

A $3.50 contribution is suggested for each meal, participants are asked to donate what they can. All donations go directly back into the program to help provide meals.

Individuals who do not qualify for the program can purchase the meal program.  Please call our office for more information on how to get started.  The full cost is $8.

We accept checks, money orders and credit cards.
